Architect and Furniture Designer, Marcel Breuer is considered to have been one among the fathers of Modernism. Breuer has devoted much part of his research to the design of modular elements and mass production processes. After having studied and taught at the Bauhaus he began his professional career in Berlin, designing houses and commercial spaces, as well as a number of metal tube furniture. The best known among his early projects was the chair in bended steel tube known as the “Wassily”, designed in 1925. The name ‚was given in the 60’s by Dino Gavina, the first Italian manufacturer of the chair, which had discovered that Kandinsky, Breuer’s colleague at the Bauhaus, was the recipient of one of the first pieces subsequent to the initial prototypes.
